About Us
1970 Stewart Organ Service
Len and Tony purchased the already established service company from the original owner, Bob Stewart. Len and Tony were Bob's technicians. Bob retired and moved to Florida. Shortly after purchasing the business, Tony and Len realized the need for another technician. Tom was hired to be the part time “Shop Technician” so Len and Tony could keep up with the service call demands on church organs, organs in clubs and restaurants as well as a huge demand for repairs on organs in homes. Tom became a full-time technician in 1972. The company expanded to a full-time secretary and two full time shop technicians. In 1976 Tony left the company and moved into a different field of electronics. Len became the president of the company. As the years passed, the company grew and reduced as necessary to meet the demands of the industry. Tom and Len worked together for 46 years when Len made the decision to retire from the company.
2018 - Present
Tom, in his 46th year as a Hammond Organ Specialist took the reins to Stewart Organ Service. Tom's son, Brian, came on board as the Administrative Assistant in 2019 and is now in the process of becoming technician’s assistant.
Skills
Stewart Organ Service has taken great pride in being the best in the business. We have not only accomplished the technical knowledge and skills to repair, restore and maintain the Vintage Hammonds and Leslies, but we have gained the confidence of thousands of churches in Baltimore, Washington, Northern Virginia as well as some in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. We have many individual proud owners of the best Hammonds ever built who won’t call anyone but us for repairs and maintenance.
Education
Tom studied basic electronics in high school and continued studying electronics in Community College graduating in the first class of Howard County Community College with an associate degree in electronics. Starting in 1972, Tom attended countless seminars provided by many different organ companies. This, along with working with his “boss” but more important his Friend, for many years now is considered by many churches and organ owners as the best in the business.
Tom is also a trained and accomplished organist and choir director. Since the majority of our customers are church musicians, this is truly an asset in our communication.
